Spring Island

|
This magnificent Lowcountry island, located between Charleston and Savannah, with winding sandy roads, dense primordial Live Oak Forests, fresh-water ponds and historic Tabby Ruins, was once a grand sea island cotton plantation with formal gardens and majestic oak avenues overlooking breathtaking salt marshes. Very little has changed here in the last 300 years. The deer, the turkeys and the black-masked fox squirrels still thrive in their natural habitat. Hundreds of species of birds fill the island year round, and dozens more bring their spectacular display here on their migratory paths. The rivers, marshes and tidal creeks teem with fish, shrimp, crabs and oysters. The 3000-acre island will have a maximum of 410 homes with over 1200 acres set aside and protected as open space and Nature Preserve. While golf on the Arnold Palmer designed Tabby Links course is an important aspect of the island development, members also enjoy bird watching, horseback riding, nature photography, boating, fishing, hunting, swimming, kayaking, sporting clays and many other activities. The Spring Island Trust was created to ensure the preservation and protection of the island’s environment and cultural history. It encourages research and documentation by inviting scientists, historians and artists to the island for consultation, study and inspiration. The emphasis is on quiet enjoyment and understated charm. David Ogilvy & Associates is pleased to be the exclusive area representative.
