Recreation in Greenwich

The following is a list of public recreation areas in Greenwich, including beaches and a golf course reserved for Greenwich residents only. There are also numerous private clubs and associations for those with interest in a specific form of athleticism.

Parks

Babcock Preserve

North Street, Greenwich
Entrance: On North Street., 1/2 mile north of Merritt Parkway

The Town of Greenwich maintains this 297 acre parcel which is maintained in its natural state. Trails are well marked and allow for hiking and cross-country skiing across and through ponds, streams, and meadows. Open daily during daylight hours. Picnic area and free parking.

Bible Street Park

Bible Street, Cos Cob

Bible Street Park is a neighborhood park with athletic fields, a tennis court, and playground. It is within walking distance of Cos Cob School, Cos Cob Community Center, and the Montgomery Pinetum.

Binney Park

Sound Beach Avenue & Arch Street, Old Greenwich

Binney Park is the home of one of two annual Fourth of July fireworks displays in Greenwich. This park features a playground, four tennis courts, athletic fields, and lovely walking paths along the pond.

Bruce Park

Bruce Park Drive and Indian Field Road, Greenwich

Bruce Park contains something for everyone. A picnic area, playground, fitness trail, and bowling green are joined by athletic fields, three tennis courts, and a picturesque pond.

Christiano Park

Entrance on Holly Hill Lane, Greenwich

Picnic areas, a playground, two tennis courts, and athletic fields make Christiano Park a well-used neighborhood facility. It is within walking distance of Hamilton Avenue Elementary School.

Greenwich Common/Havemeyer Park

Entrance on Field Point Road, additional walking entrance on Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich

In the center of town, Greenwich Common/Havemeyer Park is a great place to enjoy lunch or a walk after enjoying shopping on Greenwich Avenue. Lunchtime concerts are held periodically during the summer. Greenwich Common/Havemeyer Park also features athletic fields, a playground, and a running track.

Loughlin Park

Loughlin Avenue, Greenwich

Loughlin Park is a neighborhood park within walking distance of central Cos Cob's shopping district. This park contains athletic fields, two tennis and two platform tennis courts, and a playground.

Mianus River Park

Entrance on Cognewaugh Road, 1/2 mile east of Stanwich Road, Greenwich.

Montgomery Pinetum

Bible Street, Cos Cob

Almost 100 varieties of conifers planted by Colonel Robert Montgomery are spread through this 62 acre park. Pinetum also has hiking trails, a garden center and library, an ice skating pond and a picnic area. Meander through the adjacent Caldwell Wildlife Sanctuary, maintained by the Greenwich Audobon Society.

Pemberwick Park

Pemberwick Road, Greenwich

Forty-four acres divided between tennis courts and playgrounds and two natural areas featuring meadows, cattail marshes, and woods.

Roger Sherman Baldwin Park

Arch Street, Greenwich

Feel the breeze of the Long Island Sound while listening to the free summer concerts on Wednesday evenings during July and August. Ample parking for the Park and the Island Beach ferrys is nearby.

William Street Park

A neighborhood park with a picnic area and playground.

Beaches

Byram Beach

Byram Beach hosts numerous other attractions besides its location on the Long Island Sound: athletic fields, swimming pool, picnic area, playground, and three tennis courts.

Great Captain Island

The town-sponsored ferry's half-hour ride takes you to a 17 acre island with beach, picnic area, and camp site (permit and reservation required for camping). A Greenwich beach card is required.

Greenwich Point

Open all year round, this 147 acre beach has a concession stand and plenty of parking. A Greenwich beach card is required between April 1 and November 30.

Island Beach - Little Captain Island

A twenty-minute ferry ride takes you to this popular beach with picnic area, concession stand, playground and camp area (permit and reservation required for camping). A Greenwich beach card is required.

Golf

Bruce Memorial Golf Course

King Street, Greenwich

An eighteen hole golf course operated by the town Department of Parks & Recreation/ Eighteen holes, putting green, pro shop, club house, driving range, and restaurant. Greenwich residents and their guests only.
